Dizziness is unfortunately something people from all walks of life experience. This is an experience where you become light headed, unsteady, and may even lose your balance. In some cases, it may lead to fainting. Fortunately there are a number of home remedies for dizziness to help alleviate symptoms that you might be suffering from.
While dizziness or Vertigo is often incorrectly referred to as a disease, it’s actually the symptom of another condition. This may be low blood pressure, heart disease, anemia, heat stroke, anxiety, migraine, hypoglycemia, allergies, or other health concerns. In my case, its from an auto-immune disorder.
The problem with dizziness, is that other things can also cause it to occur, when nothing else is wrong. A person might be dehydrated, over exercising, or have another underlying cause with it. If dizziness is ever combined with chest pain, nausea, or a loss of consciousness, it is critical the person seeks medical help. The reason is this can be the result of another underlying condition.
To combat dizziness, here are a few home remedies for dizziness available to you:
Deep Breathing Exercise
This can reduce anxiety levels, stress, and improve the amount of oxygen in the body. To properly do this, you’ll need to follow a few simple steps.
- Sit in a comfortable position.
- Take your right hand and place it on your abdomen. Now, take your other hand and place your thump on your nostril.
- Close your mouth.
- Slowly inhale through the free nostril and allow it to slowly fill your lungs. Then exhale to a count of three seconds.
- Do this several times until you feel better.
- Now rest for a few minutes and slowly stand.
Have a Snack
Sometimes, low blood sugar is the contributor to the dizziness you feel. The best solution is to eat something healthy. Try to find a snack that is high in carbohydrates and allow it to settle in your body. Consider options like yogurt, fruit, cashews, or even walnuts. The goal is to avoid eating something that is full of processed sugars as this can have a different set of complications associated with it.
Drink Plenty of Water
Dehydration is another real concern you face. When you don’t drink enough water, or delay drinking it too much, it can result in dehydration. The solution is to add the fluids you’ve lost, in order to curb the dizziness you feel. This is done by drinking some water, broth, sports drinks, or even a little herbal tea. Once you’re re-hydrated, the dizziness you’re feeling should dissipate.
Grab the Ginger Root
Blood flow concerns might contribute to the dizziness you feel. In these cases, you’ll want to use a little ginger to help you to settle things down. You can either seep some fresh ginger in some hot water for a tea, or chew on a slice of it. You should notice results fairly quickly and begin to feel better in no time. As an added bonus, ginger can also help to settle an upset stomach. If you can’t stomach plain ginger, you can choose capsules, candied ginger (in moderation), or even a diet ginger ale. Just keep your intake of ginger to a minimum until you know how your body will react to it.
Natural Honey
Honey is one of the most amazing natural foods. Not only can it fight allergies and bacteria, but it can also help to stabilize your blood sugar. Just enjoy a small teaspoon full if you feel dizzy. It will boost your energy level, while preventing low blood sugar, that can lead to you feeling dizziness.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C and it can combat illness. It is also a natural way to help hydrate the body. Just add a few drops to a glass of body with a little honey. Mix it together and you’ll begin to feel better in no time. You’ll also have the added bonus of having a boost to your immune system.
Ginkgo Biloba
Supplements are often celebrated for their amazing power. In this case, ginkgo biloba is an option you have. While it treats tinnitus, memory loss, and other health concerns, it also helps to improve blood flow to the brain. That means you can combat the dizzy spell effectively and enjoy the other benefits. Just note many medications interact with it, so speak to your doctor or pharmacist, before you turn to this powerful herb to help combat your dizziness at home.
Diet and Exercise
Keeping up with a healthy diet and exercise is also important. Its all about essential wellness and care when your body is clearly telling you something. Make sure you are getting enough of the essential foods that contain iron, folic acid, fiber, and even Vitamin A. This means foods like spinach, broccoli, sprouts and other items are essential. Avoid “comfort” foods when you are experiencing regular bouts of dizziness. High levels of sodium, alcohol, caffeine, and even fat can all act like triggers that can cause you to experience further problems.
With that, consider the following tips to help you further reduce the occurrence of dizziness in your daily routine. You can follow one or all of these tips for incredible results.
- Sit down and balance yourself when you feel dizzy.
- Avoid standing up suddenly, as this can contribute to dizziness.
- To settle a spinning room, focus on an object that cannot move. If possible turn off all lights and monitors in a room.
- Make sure you routinely get a massage to help promote better blood circulation.
- Always get plenty of rest and strive to sleep at least 7 hours each night.
- Consider mediating.
- Avoid tobacco, alcohol, and caffeine that are proven to cause dizziness.
Above all, speak with your healthcare professional. While dizziness does occur, it shouldn’t be a constant ailment you suffer from. If it is, then you’re likely facing other health concerns that must be dealt with. It is also a good idea to avoid dangerous situations if you are dizzy. This includes not driving a vehicle until you come up with a solution for it, or operating any heavy machinery.
Dizziness doesn’t have to be a way of life. If you experience a dizzy spell at home, consider one of these home remedies for dizziness options. They are highly effective and will give you the results you are looking for.
