If you have a special skill in the education arena but do not want to work in a school or college, there are plenty of work from home opportunities for teachers. The internet has changed the way we do everything, including work.

Your circumstances may have changed and where as once you worked in a school, you can now work from home. You may have had kids, you may hate commuting, each circumstance is different.

What we do know is that people love working from home, can make a decent living out of it, and it has become more and more popular. Even for teachers, or especially for teachers. Below are some good work from home opportunities for teachers to check out!

Online teaching

You only need a computer and Skype or Zoom. And of course a pupil, or two. Get the word out that you are available to teach from home and then set up a few Skype sessions. It is easy to do, you can choose your hours and one hour of Skype teaching can be really beneficial to the pupil.

If your skill is young students, put it out there. If you prefer high school students or college students, put it out there.

Get the word out that you are teaching online and you will see your Skype Sessions get full, pretty quickly. Especially if you are good. You can teach children but of course you can teach adults too, depending on what they are looking for.

Online lectures

You do not have to do one on one sessions only. Many schools look for online lecturers. It is a real trend these days.

Chat to the universities or colleges and put forward suggestions for online lectures. Or, just google to see what kind of teachers or professors are needed for online lectures.

It’s a good way to earn money, you do it from home, you use Skype or similar, and it’s good money.

Study Coaching

Lots of kids are bright, they just don’t know how to study. You can offer sessions where you give pupils study skills. These sessions could be just half an hour and if the kid has a specific problem, focus on that.

You could even create an online class at Udemy or another online school that shows kids or even adults how to study properly. Its a much needed skill for any age from youth through adulthood and can be a lucrative career if you enjoy helping others in this manner.

Having had teaching experience, you know what a student has to do to be successful. Teach them, online.

Curriculum Developer

Education departments are always looking for new materials, new books and new curriculum to be developed. If you have experience in the world of education, you can do this in your sleep.

Rather, do it from home, in your own time. All you have to worry about is your deadline and you do need to have a computer. Look online to see who is looking for curriculum developers and in which subject. You’re likely to find work with even limited teaching experience.

Grading or Marking Exams

It can be pretty easy to make extra money by marking tests, essays or exams. Put yourself on the market to do grading at home and take that burden off other teachers, schools, curriculum providers or other educational institutes. It’s always helpful making extra money and if you can do it while doing something you really enjoy, why not.

Share your skills

Let’s say you have been working in the education arena for a long time and now you’re at home, retired, or perhaps had a baby or have family commitments.

You can continue sharing your skills with other teachers by working online. Share your lessons, your activities and your expertise, and get paid for it. You can do this a number of ways. Sell your developed lesson plans, printables and other material online or to another teacher looking for similar resources.

You can find these work from home opportunities for teachers online or you can create your own website even. Someone with your expertise is always in demand.

Editing

You may not want to write the text books but you might have a few hours a day to edit them. Editors get pretty well paid and have totally flexible schedules.

Educational editors are in demand, there are not a lot of them. If you have a background in education and understand teaching material, you might want to find an online editing job in the teaching realm.

Education Consulting

Share your expertise. If you have guidelines for other teachers, let them pay for it. You will find that there are often schools or colleges who advertise for people just like you.

It may be to write a manual, or a book, or just general guidelines. If you have tricks for homework, studying, discipline, keeping students engaged and passionate, look for online teaching jobs that will keep you engaged and passionate too.

Final thoughts

You may have worked for years in the education field and now you’ve retired. You can keep working. You can earn good money by teaching from home, online, and all you need is your computer, internet connection (for some of the jobs, not all) and passion. It’s a great way to make some extra money and you can do it in your own time and at your own pace.

Being a good teacher doesn’t mean you have to show up for class in person. Give these opportunities a try and see for yourself where your skills and desire can you take in this field.

Look online to see what work-from-home teaching jobs are available. You will be pleasantly surprised.
